An echocardiogram is a safe, painless ultrasound scan that produces detailed images of your heart — its size, shape, valves and how well it's pumping.
A transthoracic echo takes images at rest. An exercise stress echo repeats imaging while your heart works harder on a treadmill — it can reveal narrowed arteries that aren't visible at rest. Both are non-invasive and don't involve radiation.
